Bt Installation of Full Fibre Internet which could happen in the next three months, the installation will be all underground, at no cost to the company or chalet owner. There is no requirement to take up the Bt internet service. A wayleave agreement will be required for all chalet owner's gardens which means they can make a trench and put the fibre in for use or for future use without further disruption.

We will install the network using the communal ground as much as possible, with separate split sections leading to each property. If the property owner rejects the fibre services to their property, the connection will be left at the boundary. If the property is sold and the new owner wishes to take service, this will be available to order. There is no cost associated with the upgrade of the service. Each property will have to pay for their monthly service as standard, and their individual connections will be installed by their chosen service provider

2. please confirm that this work is free including trench/make good on an
owners land, whether the chalet owner takes up bt internet or not.
3 Poles - All properties would prefer underground connection.
The pole at Drummullin Place does not serve any Laigh Isle properties,
similarly the one further along shown as serving 17, 18 and 19.
There is no wire connection to numbers 2 and 9. Maybe they have been
disconnected, number 9 has the connection point in the eaves.
The committee does not want further wires from poles.
I have changed the plans so all Laigh Isle properties are included in works for underground connections.
4 There is a "joint box and associated apparatus" in the front lawned
area of number 14, as agreed in 2007. Please see attached. It may be of
use to you.
This small joint box cannot be used within current plans. Thank you for looking this out though.
5 Please can you advise what the thin blue line on the map is?

Dear All,
To clarify BT are doing a full fibre upgrade for the village, as part of a government project to provide all homes in Scotland with super fast fibre broadband. The installation is unavoidable.
We received quite a few objections and your committee has objected to a network of masts being placed in Laigh Isle, the surveyor has written to us to say that they can install fibre in the ground, using existing ducts and chambers where possible, obviously there will be digging, filling and tarmacing but in the end all that will be visible are some new chamber covers.
We are awaiting the surveyors plans and drawings, and timescale. When we have this we will publish it on the https://iowll.co.uk/?Diary:Diary_2026 page.

Thanks for getting back, really appreciate the help on this. I totally understand the objections for new poles going up. As this is quite a scenic area I get that people don't want views obstructed. Unfortunately, the current underground network for the copper cables is buried direct in ground. This means an armoured cable in the ground with no existing duct that we can run fibre through. In order to get fibre into the estate we would need to build a full new underground network with new duct and some new chambers, we will use existing underground chambers as much as we can. Building a new underground network does include more work, trenching and digging, but once the network is on it is hidden from view with only a few chamber lids visible. All trenching is reinstated to a high quality.
Would this be something you think the committee would be more willing to agree upon? I could draw up a plan of what this would look like if you think that would be beneficial?

The estate at Laigh Isle, Isle of Whithorn is a Ltd company 'Isle of Whithorn Leisure Ltd' and the chalet owners are shareholders, matters are decided by vote in some occasions and minor things by committee. The Burdens are enforced about what can and can't be done on the estate and applied so there are restrictions on extensions, sheds, buildings etc.
The whole aim of the burdens is to keep the estate as it is, you can read more on the website.
We circulated your email last night and added the info to https://iowll.co.uk/?Diary:Diary_2026 we have already had objections.
Please could you advise if it would be possible to install in current ducts, pipes etc, as this could easily be passed by the committee. And also what the time frame is?

I am a Fibre To The Premise Surveyor working on behalf of BT Openreach.
We are planning a new full fibre network in the Isle of Whithorn. We are
looking to upgrade the current network to all residents of Laigh Isle.
In order for us to do this there is some work required. I believe you
look after the Laigh Isle estate so I'm wondering if you can help obtain
the relevant permissions and agree a plan for all residents.
The current copper network uses underground buried cables, meaning we
can't use this network for new fibre. In order to feed every premise in
Laigh Isle I have proposed a new overhead network using new pole
positions. I have attached the plans for the works. If you can have a
look hopefully everything looks okay and we can go ahead with the
current design.
This is a government funded project, named Gigabit, to feed every home
in Scotland with superfast fibre broadband. As such the cost for all
works undertaken is on us, only cost to yourself being the fibre package
you may or may not take up once the network is built.
As this work is on private property, we will need a wayleave document
signed. This is an agreement with yourself and BT Openreach that you are
okay for us to install new apparatus on your land. We are not sure how
this land is split up and who would be responsible for the permission
for each pole position. Is this something you could assist with? It may
be residents are happy for you to sign on their behalf.
Could you pass this information on to residents and hopefully the plan
is agreeable. If not get in touch and we can try and agree a new plan to
get full fibre to the estate.
