The Committee

The Committee are chalet owners who volunteer, unpaid, to help maintain Laigh Isle. Overseeing site maintenance, company compliance, and ensuring burdens are met, organising the AGM are the main roles, and many owners have had a stint or two on the committee at some point during their ownership. Recently the committee enquired about finding a management company to run the estate, our enquiries drew a blank, and if there was a management company brought in then the levy you pay would increase substantially. Please understand that owning a chalet may carry the responsibility of being on the committee at some point, and that's no bad thing, we think of it as 'community service'.

The Burdens - Making changes to your chalet or its grounds

Please see the page on this site The Burdens Click Here, these are in your chalet's title deeds, which you agreed when you bought your chalet, and are also in a 'small' version, with some additions added by shareholders. The essence of the burdens is to maintain the appearance of the estate, so we can all enjoy it as it is. If you wish to erect structures, fences or sheds for example, or change the shape of your chalet or buildings at all, with for example cladding or solar panels, please contact the committee prior to doing so.

EV Chargers can be installed without reference to the committee.

Apparently when Laigh Isle was built another similar development was also built near Ayr which was later demolished, it has been suggested that the burdens weren't followed.

The Levy

Each year a levy is set by the committee, this every chalet must pay. The funds the levy brings in pays for site maintenance such as grass cutting, gardening, repairs to lights, public liability insurance etc, and any other costs involved in maintaining Laigh Isle.

Occasionally a special levy is also needed, this would normally be agreed at the AGM. In recent years a special levy was called for repairs to the roads, and in 2022 for sea wall repairs. See Levy page

Site Maintenance Contractors

Grass cutting and border maintenance are organised by the committee, if you have a complaint or suggestion please can you email admin@iowll.co.uk rather than discussing the matter with the contractor.

Garden waste bay

The garden waste bay is only for compostable waste such as leaves, twigs, plant cuttings etc please deposit as far to the back as possible to maximise capacity. No general waste, rubble, plastics, polystyrene, plant pots or compost bags.

Garages

Garages must be kept in good order and the area in front of them must be kept in a tidy manner by the owner. 

No1 Garage is owned by Isle of Whithorn Leisure Ltd.

Salt Bins

The nearest yellow grit bin for use by Laigh Isle residents is situated at the Growing Space garden, opposite Laigh Isle entrance. Dumfries and Galloway Council grit roadways only. They do not have the resources (labour) to grit pavements so it is up to residents to locate their nearest bin and apply grit to their properties (driveway) and pavements.

This website, data protection and accessibility

This website is designed to keep chalet owners up to date with what is happening and for them to have a greater understanding of how Laigh Isle gets to be so well maintained. It's also there to make the role of the committee transparent. There will be no commercial links to businesses, nor tourist info - that is available elsewhere. This website does not collect cookies.

Isle of Whithorn Leisure Ltd has a data protection policy, which also extends to our use of email. 

For chalet owners who do not have internet access, then the committee will attempt to provide paper copies.

If the power goes off for more than four hours then the Isle's Resilience will be opened at St Ninian's Tearoom
