Short Term Let Licence and Our STL Policy

Short Term Let licences are now required by law for properties that are offered as holiday lets in Scotland. This does not apply to friends and family using your property, but includes all properties that are offered commercially as a short term let.

Existing holiday lets before October 2023 must have been granted a licence to trade or must have made an application, which is shown on the register as 'being determined', this means it is not finished by the council; these STL's can advertise/take bookings/trade.

New STL's are not allowed to advertise/take bookings/trade until they have been granted a licence. 'New' includes a holiday let property that has changed ownership. STL's are granted to the owner(s) so when a 'holiday let' is sold the new owners must make an application and have it granted before operating.
