What to do when buying a chalet

If you are buying a chalet then please let your solicitor know that this website exists and that they can advise the other solicitor also, the information on the site is designed to make the process easier and may even lower your costs.

What to do when buying a chalet

When you purchase your chalet you become a shareholder in 'Isle of Whithorn Leisure Ltd', and the owner(s) of the chalet is(are) entitled to one vote at the AGM. One Vote per chalet not per owner.

Contact the committee on admin@iowll.co.uk and inform us of your contact details; including name, home address if different to the chalet address, email and tel numbers, so that a new share certificate can be issued and sent to you, also as you become a shareholder in the company Companies House records are updated by the committee, this is a legal requirement.

Your solicitor should complete a stock transfer form which we should also receive but this does not always happen.

We will use your email address to send AGM information and any updates which need to be brought to your attention more urgently than relying on owners accessing the web site.

All correspondance please email admin@iowll.co.uk

If you intend to offer your chalet as a holiday let (STL) please read this page

Wills - Main residence in England and property in Scotland

If you have an English Will it may only be valid in England, which means property in Scotland could be contested. It may be suggested that owners in a similar position, or if they have moved to Scotland, should take advice from a solicitor.

Information for solicitors

The levy runs from 6th April to the following 5th April (the financial year), a notice is sent out for payment in May to the chalet owner(s) see 'Diary pages' for current levy charge.

  • General repairs to the estate are included in the levy. See on the 'Diary' pages for improvements that are made as a matter of course during the years.
